About the National Trust village of Allerford and Exmoor

Allerford

Situated at the foot of Selworthy woods, Allerford is a village with traditional Exmoor cottages, many of which are National Trust owned.

The shallow river Aller meanders it's way under the 500 year old bridge, from which The Pack Horse derives it's name, to the sea a mile away. The village is well served with a post office and general stores.

The recreation ground with childrens play area has views to the sea. The Old School now houses a rural life museum exhibiting items such as old farm equipment, a victorian schoolroom and the West Somerset photographic archive. There is also the benefit of a licensed club, where you can try your hand at skittles, darts, pool and snooker.

In the centre of the village a working blacksmith's forge can be found. Numerous public footpaths and bridleways allow you to explore Exmoor and all it has to offer. Discover stunning views and dramatic coastline.
