Neighbouring Selworthy, with it's 16th century whitewashed church and chocolate box cottages, it is an idyllic place to have a cream tea, with panoramic views of Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor. A unique day out can be had at the Exmoor Farm Falconry. Feed the animals, animal handling sessions, birds of prey demonstrations and light refreshments. Bossington , with it's thatched cottages with round chimneys leads to the sea and The South West Way. The shingle ridge and it's unique salt water marsh is a haven for sea birds and an ornithologists delight. Porlock has a wide range of shops, historic pubs, a museum, restaurants, centered around the 12th century church of St Dubricius. The information centre is a must. Learn about local events, pick up a map of the Porlock Vale Cycle Trail, or book a fishing trip, Land Rover safari or coach tour. Pony trek from Horner's wooded valley to Dunkery Beacon. Take either the infamous Porlock Hill or the more scenic Toll road out of Porlock and over the moor. See Exmoor ponies, spot Buzzards overhead, glimpse Red Deer as you drive through Lorna Doone County. Picturesque Lynmouth, enjoy views from the vernicular Railway up to the cliff top village of Lynton with it's delightful cinema. Walkers will enjoy the coast path to the Valley of the Rocks. The seaside town of Minehead is a 5 minute drive away. Home of the Somerset Steam Railway. This busy market town boasts a public swimming pool, golf course and daily fishing excursions from the harbour. Visit the bustling medieval village of Dunster, with it's Yarn Market and National Trust Castle. |
